Bangladesh one-day international team ascended to No 6 position in the ICC ODI Team Rankings Tuesday.

Bangladesh moved to the position for the first time in five years after Pakistan lost the first ODI of the ongoing series against Australia by 88 runs in Lahore.

Bangladesh had the opportunity to move up the rankings in the three-match series against Afghanistan at home in February.

Bangladesh needed to whitewash visitors Afghanistan in the series but finished 2-1 losing the third game by seven wickets.

Bangladesh, boosted with their recent historic 2-1 series win against hosts South Africa have 93.06 rating points while Pakistan have 93.

Pakistan in the event of a victory in their next game in the Australia series will push Bangladesh down to No 7 again while a defeat will deduct more points from their tally.
