Veteran batter Naeem Islam remained unbeaten after scoring a century for BCB North Zone while pacer Abu Hider came under the limelight for his five-wicket haul for Walton Central Zone on day one of round two in the ongoing Bangladesh Cricket League 2021-22 on Sunday.
At Chattogram’s Zahur Ahmed Chowdhury Stadium, BCB North Zone were sent to bat first after losing toss to BCB South Zone. North Zone started shaky losing the top three batters with just 24 runs on the board. The damage however got recovered with Naeem leading with unbeaten 126 runs involving 14 boundaries and one over boundary while Mahudul Islam Ankon on the other end of the crease not out with 53 runs. North Zone captain Marshall Ayub added 47 runs to the tally.
At stumps North Zone posted 246 runs losing four wickets. South Zone spinners Nahidul Islam picked two wickets while Nasum Ahmed and Mahedi Hasan picked one wicket apiece.
In the other match of the round, left-arm pacer Hider picked five wickets to boost Walton Central Zone against Islami Bank East Zone at Sher-e-Bangla National Stadium. Winning the toss, Central Zone opted to bowl first and Abu Hider led the Central Zone bowling attack piercing through the East Zone middle order and restricted the innings on 245 all-out. Batting at number three Shahadat Hossain scored 72, the most in the East Zone innings.
Central Zone openers the saw off the solitary over before stumps posting four runs on the board.
