The observance began with hoisting of the national flag of Bangladesh
The Bangladesh High Commission in Islamabad and the Deputy High Commission in Karachi organized different programs to mark the 50th Victory Day of Bangladesh on Thursday.
They paid homage to the millions of people who sacrificed their lives during the 1971 Liberation War at the hands of the Pakistani military and their local collaborators.
Homage was also paid to the Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman prior to the beginning of the day-long programs on his birth centenary following Covid-19 guidelines.
The observance began with the hoisting of the national flag on the premises – by High Commissioner to Pakistan Md Ruhul Alam Siddique in Islamabad and Chargé d’affaires Md Atiqur Rahman at the Karachi mission.
The Bangladeshis living in Karachi, officials of the missions and their family members as well as the armed forces officials participating in trainings in Pakistan attended the discussion on Thursday.
Messages from President M Abdul Hamid, Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina, Foreign Minister Dr AK Momen and State Minister for Foreign Affairs Md Shahriar Alam were read out on the occasion.
Meanwhile, Bangladesh is sending a ministerial-level delegation to Pakistan on Saturday, for the first time in nine years.
State Minister Shahriar Alam and Foreign Secretary Masud Bin Momen will fly out to Islamabad to join a special session of the Council of Foreign Ministers of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) on the situation in Afghanistan.
