The players’ draft of the tournament will be held on January 27.

The eighth edition of the Bangladesh Premier League T20 is finally taking shape. Although BCB president Nazmul Hasan on Saturday had cited a low confidence in arranging the tournament as per the schedule, BCB director and member of BPL T20 technical committee Jalal Younus informed the tournament on course now.

According to Jalal the board has been able to finalise the six teams to feature in the special edition of the tournament to mark the birth centenary of Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman. The players’ draft of the tournament will be held on January 27.

“We have verbally informed the six teams. As planned, we will have six teams in the tournament this season. The players’ draft will likely be held on December 27. We will make a final announcement soon,” informed Jalal to the media on Sunday.

The BCB alongside the teams is also working for a grand opening for the tournament informed BPL Governing Tournament [BPL GC] chairman Sheikh Sohel.

“An event management team from India inspected the BCB premises today [Sunday] to plan on the opening ceremony. This team was involved with 50th anniversary of Bangladesh Victory Day celebration program,” informed BCB director Sohel.

The eighth edition of the tournament is tentatively scheduled to take place between January 20 and February 20, 2022.

The BPL governing council following the season will review the teams form this season, involve few of the old franchises and revise the regulations, if required, before awarding long-term rights to the same team owners.
